Surrogacy Arrangements for Same-Sex Male Couples
Our agency has guided many same-sex male couples in finding gestational surrogates to carry their babies to term. In a gestational surrogacy arrangement with an egg donation. This method uses in vitro fertilization (IVF) to create embryos from donated eggs fertilized with sperm from one or both male partners. Donated sperm can also be used if one or both partners have fertility issues.
Typically, our specialists use sperm from both male partners to fertilize the donated eggs. Although twin pregnancies are not recommended, we can explore the option of transferring two embryos to the gestational carrier's uterus, hoping to achieve a pregnancy with a biological connection to each male parent. We also, more commonly, offer the option to freeze embryos for future transfers if the couple decides to expand their family later.
Biological Connections for Same-Sex Couples
Understanding the importance of a biological connection to their child, our coordinators can refer same sex intended parents to fertility specialists who frequently help couples with technologically advanced solutions to achieve this. Besides fertilizing eggs with sperm from both male partners, these specialists offer other methods to conceive children biologically related to both partners.
These fertility specialists have supported cases where a gay couple first has a child genetically related to one partner and later uses the other partner's sperm to conceive a second child. If the eggs are donated by the same woman, the children will be related to each other through their biological mother, with each child also related to one of the male partners. Additionally, in cases where one partner has a female relative willing to donate eggs, those eggs can be fertilized by the other partner's sperm before being transferred to the surrogate. This approach fosters a biological connection with the child for both partners.
